Absolutely brilliant, Scott! I knew a little about your background but this series fills in the gaps. My very best wishes to you, your lovely and talented family, and your marvelous career. It's been a pleasure to know you (sort of behind the scenes) these many years.
Nice trip down memory lane. I was also born in 1951 and learned to read from comics (the newspaper funnies). I relate to your shout outs, even though I never could draw worth a darn. Great job.
Hey Scott! Love it love it LOVE IT! Dude, loved yer stuff back when I was a kid, we were both kids, still have my original Scott Shaw! drawing from way back when. Next time we have lunch, I'll bring it.
I was going to say that as a kid, you were quite an influence in my art. I remember making my bulletin board in my room a shrine to the Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew full of my interpretations of Pig Iron and Captain Carrot. Sergio Aragones was another big influence as his crowd scenes were so detailed and had different things happening, that I was quite inspired by both of you. It was worth using my $2 to buy comic books at the local drug store. You were my primary teachers in art at the time.
Absolutely right over here too Scott. Capt. Carrot was a major influence on my art and seeing a "cartoon" style in "the Big Two" kept me going for a long time. You and Hembeck were both instrumental in showing me cartoonists can "make it".
